What is Big Walkies?

Sep 14, 2015

If you follow us on social media you will have seen us constantly talking about Big Walkies. This is because we're very excited to be hosting an event this year in Derbyshire! We've already got lots of lovely dogs and their owners signed up to take part, and we're raring to go! So what do you need to know about Big Walkies?

What is Big Walkies?

Big Walkies is a sponsored dog walk, organised by National RSPCA. Each year, local centres are chosen to host an event in their area and this year we are one of the centres taking part! It is a fun event that aims to raise awareness and funds for the centre at the same time as having a really great day. Big Walkies is known as the Best. Walk. Ever. and that's what we're hoping to provide!

Why is it so important?

All of the donations raised by our lovely dog walkers go straight back to the centre to help care for unwanted, abandoned and neglected animals, so we are very thankful to everybody taking part. It's supposed to be a fun day out for everybody, whilst also helping out the dogs that aren't so fortunate who have ended up in our kennels.

Who can get involved?

Everybody is welcome! Big Walkies is designed to be a fun stroll for dogs of all shapes and sizes (as well as their owners!) and old and young dogs alike are welcome. It costs £10.00 to register your dog (and £5.00 for any additional dogs you wish to bring), and you get a fundraising pack including a tshirt for yourself and a bandanna for your pooch.

Where is the event?

Our Big Walkies event is taking place at Shipley Country Park, in Derbyshire. There are two routes to choose from: a 3k or 5k, but both are equally as exciting!

When is it taking place?

20th September is the date to remember - not long to wait now! Remember that the deadline for online entries is 17th September but you can still come along on the day and sign up there instead.

How can I sign up?

It's so easy to sign up, even your dog could do it. You can find more information about applying here and here. Alternatively, you can ring 0300 123 0123 or text BIG to 78866.

Take the lead and sign up for Big Walkies today! You won't want to miss the Best. Walk. Ever.
