It's very nearly Christmas, and it seems like everybody in Derby is busy - the centre is no different! We've been working hard all week and have lots more planned for the festive period.
Firstly, we'd like to thank you for your continued support and amazing generosity as we have been blown away by the sheer kindness of our supporters. We've had some amazing gifts of toys, food, beds, coats and blankets for the animals this year and they have shown no signs of slowing down yet! Yesterday alone we had to move presents from the Christmas tree to the store room about 5 times as visitors couldn't get into reception for all the gifts. We couldn't survive without your support, and your incredible donations mean we can give abused, neglected and abandoned animals facing Christmas in a shelter a day they can remember.
Today we started the process of getting Christmas dinners ready! This year we'll be providing chicken for 22 dogs and 28 cats, and winter vegetables for 14 rabbits, 4 guinea pigs, 4 degus, 1 hamster and 2 mice so we've got a lot of work to do. We purchased the food today and will be prepping it tomorrow for the staff to give out on Christmas Day.You may have noticed that we didn't run a high-profile Christmas dinner campaign this year, but rest assured the animals will most definitely be getting one each!
On the big day itself we'll have 5 animal care staff in working the day as usual, just with more fun and treats than ever for the animals. We have staff members on site 24/7 at all times, and this time of year is no different, so whilst you're tucking into your Christmas dinner spare a thought for the animal care assistants scooping up poo! Just kidding, they'll be having a fun day focusing quality time on the animals and opening the presents with them.
Please note that we will be closed on Christmas Day, Boxing Day, Sunday 27th December and New Year's Day but we will be back to business as usual from January 2nd 2016. Keep a look out for our social media posts keeping you up to date with news and behind-the-scenes shots from the upcoming days. We'll be creating a photo diary of the big day and the staff will endeavor to answer your Facebook messages and emails as quickly as possible. We'd also love to see photos of your pets at Christmas!
Have a very merry Christmas, and once again thank you for your support.
