We here at Abbey Street Animal Rehoming Centre absolutely love pets. We look after them every day at the centre, and all the staff also go home to care for their own pets at the end of the day! So we love to celebrate National Pet Month, which runs from the 1st of April to the 2nd of May this year. If you're dotty about dogs, crazy for cats, or raving over rabbits, it might be of interest to you too...
Now in it's 27th year, National Pet Month is dedicated to all things fluffy, furry and feathery - big and small - across the UK. Each year there is a new theme, and this year's is responsible pet ownership, which is great for us to talk about as an animal rehoming charity.
Responsible pet ownership is something we feel very strongly about, and we always make a point of emphasising just how much care and attention all animals need. From rabbits and small animals, cats and dogs, and things a little bit more exotic, it's important to consider your responsibility for your pet's welfare. Flea and worm treatment, microchipping, vaccinations and insurance are an integral part of responsible pet ownership, and you'll also need to keep your pet registered with a vet should anything happen.
National Pet Month is a great excuse to celebrate the happiness that your pet brings to your life, whilst learning about pet care and talking to other animal lovers about ideas and anything else pet related. You can find more information on the National Pet Month website and see any events taking place near you. You can also get involved on our Facebook and Twitter pages - we love hearing about your pets, particularly if you adopted them from us! Look out for more blogs and information on our social media pages throughout the month, and tell us what you love about your pet!
