Sadie is one of the newest members of the RSPCA Derby Animal Rehoming Centre. She is an Administrative Assistant. Chances are if you call the centre, it’ll be Sadie you’ll be chatting to. So Sadie…
I do a lot of the admin work behind the scenes. I’ve been here for just over a month and have done a variety of different things already, that one day is different from the next! As well as sort shop stock, I will end up doing audits, rota’s, monthly checks, and other general administrative duties!
I had been checking for jobs involving animals in some way and I saw there was an opportunity to work for the RSPCA on Abbey Street and I jumped at the chance! I’ve always wanted to work with animals in some way, and although I don’t directly work with them, I like to think I work for them.
A lot of my work has a routine of things to do on a daily and weekly basis, but a lot of other things pop up which can take up your whole day! Being organised and trying to do everything at once can be hard (especially when you’re not an organised person but you try to be!).
I’ve not been here that long yet to consider having a memorable moment, but landing the job was pretty amazing! I remember I was so nervous during the interview and that I thought I had ruined it completely. I’m pretty sure I cracked a couple of terrible jokes, and instantly thought ‘oh my god, I’m so stupid, this isn’t funny, stop that’. It seems to have worked though.
I love dogs so much, I’m definitely a dog person! I’ve had a couple of dogs already that I’ve had soft spots for and all of them have gone to homes which is amazing. Most recently were Bo and Lucky. Bo was an elderly babe with mammory cysts and I left work and thought about her all weekend and was going to adopt her. I came back to work and she’d been adopted over the bank holiday and although I didn’t get to say goodbye I’m so happy she has a place to call home! Lucky was the same, he was a Collie who was so sweet and he seemed to get overlooked a lot. I’ve always had bitches and never dogs but I was willing to make an exception for Lucky. I came back to work and he was gone too! I seem to have done this a few times where I fall in love with a dog and think about adopting them and then when I’m back they’re gone! I’m going to have to keep this up to make sure they all get forever homes!
No, but as I said previously I’m sure it won’t be long before I do! I’ll know when I find the one, but I also have a huge soft spot for French Bulldogs & Newfoundlands so if we ever get any of those I’ll probably snatch them up! I even have names ready for my next dogs! Dogs are the greatest gift, I wish I could have them all!
Thank you Sadie, it's been lovely chatting to you (you too Irma)
