Volunteering

There are many ways in which you can become involved with Derby RSPCA, by assisting at our Animal Centre, helping out at one of our charity shops, coming along to support our events, donating or even organising your own fundraising event!

As an independent charity we rely on volunteers to help with a variety of activities to ensure that we can keep our Animal Centre running on a day to day basis.

There are a wide range of activities that you can help with, but at the moment we are particularly in need of Charity Shop Assistants and Meet and Greet volunteers to help out at the Animal Centre.

Please note that you must be 16+ to help us as a volunteer at our Animal Centre and 25+ to be a Driver, both due to insurance restrictions. Under 16s can volunteer at fundraising events if accompanied by an adult.

To see current vacancies, please see the panel on the left-hand side or complete an application form

What do I get out of volunteering?

Volunteering for Derby & District RSPCA is an enjoyable way of spending your free time to help out with local animal welfare. It's a great way to meet new people, make new friends and have fun as well as developing your skills. Don't forget it's great for your CV too!

Just knowing that you are making a real difference to animal welfare in your area is hugely rewarding. We rehabilitate and rehome animals in need and contributing to that is something to be proud of.  We rehomed 750 animals in 2015!

What do I need to do now?

Please complete the form accessible on the left hand menu. If you can complete the on-line application form then this will help to save postage costs - thank you!  Otherwise, you may email  to receive an application form or call into the Animal Centre at 45 Abbey Street, where our staff will be only too happy to provide you with an application form.  If you would like further information on any opportunities please email or call 01332 344620 and ask to speak with Kerry.

Once we have assessed your application form we will invite you in for a chat. If there is a suitable volunteering opportunity available for you, your reference requests are then sent off and induction training is provided. Please be aware that as we receive many application forms, particularly for Animal Care Assistants, we may not always have spaces available for volunteers.

Complete an application form today.

What happens next?

Once the induction has been completed you are ready for volunteering! Where appropriate we will provide you with a 'buddy' but support systems are always in place. All volunteers will be treated fairly throughout their time with the Branch. The Volunteer Co-ordinator, along with the Supervisor in whichever area you are volunteering, will support you throughout your time at the Centre.

We look forward to welcoming you to our Team!
