Abandoned kitten gets leg-saving surgery

Otto

Authored on: 13 March 2023

In February, Otto was discovered by a member of the public in a cat carrier with a note reading 'please help me'. Thankfully, the kind person who found him took him to their local vets as they could see he was in a lot of pain. An x-ray revealed that Otto had a dislocated hip so the veterinary team attempted to push the joint back into place, but unfortunately it kept popping back out. There were only two options - full amputation of the leg, or an operation to remove the ball of the hip joint (called a femoral head ostectomy) and save the leg.

The operation, medication and pain relief would cost in the region of £1,000, so we ran an appeal to raise the money... and in just two hours we hit our target! Otto's surgery was booked and a fosterer was lined up to take him home for some extra TLC during his recovery.

Otto's surgery went without complication and, being young, he was soon back on his feet, playing and cuddling up under the duvet with his fosterer at night! He has formed such an amazing bond with his fosterers that they are going to adopt him!

We would like to thank everyone who has helped our sweet Otto, from the veterinary team and fosterer, to everyone who donated and shared his fundraiser.
