Terrified cat given second chance at happiness
Authored on: 20 September 2024
Sam came into our care after the other cats in his previous home refused to let him inside. Because of this, Sam was forced to live in the shed, so his owner felt it was best for him to find a new home where he could have the freedom of the house. After such an ordeal, Sam was terrified and shut down, so we knew it wasn't going to be easy to find him a new home...
A few weeks into his stay with us, Sam started to gain a little confidence. He would come out of his hiding spot when his favourite members of staff were around, but if there were any sudden noises or movements, he would run straight back to his bed and hide away again.
We searched and searched for a new home for Sam, but he just wasn't getting any applications. Finally, after 102 days in our care, Sam had a meet booked in with a wonderful person who had a quiet home and lots of time to spend with him. Even though Sam was really nervous during the meet, his potential adopter could see that, deep down, he was a sweet cat yearning for love... so she adopted him!
She took things slow for the first few weeks, letting Sam go at his own pace. There were lots of sounds that Sam seemed spooked by at first, and the crying baby next door really confused him, but he did meow back! Sam continued gaining confidence and after a few more weeks, he was well settled into the home and had built trust with his new human companion. We were sent this wonderful update and we're absolutely thrilled that his new owner took a chance on him so he could live the life he deserved.
"It took Sam a couple of weeks to trust me but thankfully he's realised that he's safe and loved; that the noise from the TV, the letterbox and traffic driving past will not hurt him. We have a lovely routine and he's so much less scared now. He is beautiful company and I think we're a perfect fit. He even snuggled up to my granddaughter unprompted (which he wouldn't have done a few weeks ago). I'm so happy that we found each other. Best decision I've made. Happy days. Thank you so much."
